Thankful for Kids

With all this snow, I've had some time for introspection. When you have kids, you get to have your new, expensive toothbrush opened and chewed on before you ever use it, you get to have your woodwork colored on with a rainbow of crayons, and you get to be awakened every single day way before your body is ready to get up. But, you also get to be a kid yourself and experience once again the excitement of Christmas and Easter, the tooth fairy and birthdays. You get to have little, warm bodies ready to cuddle any time of the day. And when you come home, even after being gone only 30 minutes, you have little faces waiting at the windows and shouting and dancing with joy that Mom is home! Even when a whole canister of oatmeal is spilled on the pantry floor or another dent is made in a wall, it's small potatoes compared to real issues. Today, I want to pause from the daily frustrations and say that I am soooo thankful for my kids. Now, don't ask me tomorrow. : )

Valentines Tree

I love mixing patterns and textures! I wanted to do some more Valentine's decorating using things I already had around the house. I had some cute red and white polka dot tissue paper to start with. And I decided to use some newspaper to mix with it. I traced small hearts on each kind of paper and cut them out. I poked a hole towards the top with a pencil and my daughter Emma hung them on tree branches for me. I kind of wish I had cut more newspaper hearts, but I'm not about to "correct" Emma's work. I love how it turned out!

DADS!!!

My friend Heather came up for a visit and we spent several hours yesterday making our hubbies some awesome Father's Day gifts. I had heard about putting your children's footprints on a piece of paper, adding a poem and framing it. But, I thought, "Why not do all of that on burlap instead?" So we did!  Did you know that if you use spray adhesive to attach a piece of burlap to computer paper, you can run it through your printer??? Awesome! That is how we got the poem on. Then, we used black paint to do our kids' footprints. Here it is: We also went to Hobby Lobby and had the kids pose with letters that spell Dad and took their picture. Then, we came home, printed them off and put them in a frame. I love that they each show their personality in the pictures. Very sweet. Here it is: You know how I love to share the realities of DIY. Balloon Party For Elle Belle

So after last year's somewhat involved birthday parties, I had declared that this year we would be doing simple parties for the girls. Parties involving kitty cat plates and such from Wal-mart. Then Elle requested a balloon party. Great! Easy peasy. I would buy a bunch of helium balloons and call it good. My mistake was casually typing "balloon party" into the search bar on Pinterest. : ) So many CUTE ideas. I was hooked and with Elle helping me design the event, here is what we ended up with: Cannot say enough good things about the woman who designed these invitations! For less than it would cost me to buy generic ones at Target, she worked with me, making changes several times. She even included the envelopes.
